In research, too, we tend to think in superlatives 📈🚀🛸, trying to achieve as many impact points as possible, trying to generate huge amounts of data, trying to obtain the most prestigious research grants, because if we don’t, we are considered failures 🕳️.
But is our performance really only about visibility and speed 😐?
What about failed experiments, and poor reproducibility? These are reasons, why we waste resources and taxpayer money in the life sciences day after day, year after year 😐.
In addition, we produce huge amounts of plastic waste that could be reduced 😐.
Impactful discoveries came from people who obsessed over details that looked small 🧪🧬. These discoveries had a huge impact on the history of science.
🌱 Why don’t we focus on “smaller” things such as waterproof results and solid studies?
🌱 Why don’t we reward validity rather than visibility in science?
Are hundreds of exquisite and expensive ingredients the only way for making tasty salad? 🥗🫵
