DNA replication, biochemical reactions, movement, coordination – and a plan. Thousands of perfectly orchestrated processes result in what we call cell division.

What signals make one cell divide and become two? ❓
When does the cell know, to better not divide? ❓
Are these signals different in vivo and in vitro? ❓

Investigating even one of these processes means to dive into a cytoplasm that is densely packed with biologically active molecules, proteins and polymers, pushed around and swallowed up by cell organelles along biochemical highways, all fuelled by the cell-autonomous energy production.

For experiments with living creatures such as cells, where every element is interconnected with thousands of others, reproducibility and standardization of experimental conditions in the cell culture lab are of highest priority.
